LATEST DEATHS
The Post-Gazette’s comprehensive report of recent deaths includes three types of obituaries. News Obituaries, prepared by our staff, are published at the discretion of our editors; call 412-263-1601 to suggest a news obituary. Classified obituaries are paid death notices prepared by funeral home directors; call 412-263-1371. Funeral home directors may also call 412-263-1601 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to note a death for which there is no classified obituary. Those names will be listed under other deaths.
3 Cabot senior facilities battle large outbreaks

on their own to the public, does not report how many deaths have occurred.

Concordia’s latest update, also on Wednesday, says three employees and 53 residents at Lund were positive, two employees and 29 residents at Oertel were positive, and 12 employees and 11 residents at the nursing home were positive.

All of those figures are lower than what state data show.

“The positive individuals are currently in isolation,”

Concordia wrote on its website. “We are testing and actively monitoring our residents for signs and symptoms of COVID-19 and are working with our local and state health departments.”

“We have investigated their footprints at the facility to determine who he/she came in contact with, and have notified our residents, families and employees,” it added.

CONCORDIA, FROM C-1
Virus metrics better as restrictions set to ease

residents, 3,219 hospitalizations and 977 deaths.

Allegheny County also led the metro area with declines in the COVID-19 test positivity rate, average daily hospitalizations and the number of cases for the week ending Dec. 30. Beaver and Fayette counties followed the downward trend, with each metric showing declines from the previous week.

But officials at WVU Medicine’s Uniontown Hospital in Fayette County worried about a post-holiday surge in cases that was expected to start the second week of January.

Fayette County, which has been hammered by COVID-19 in recent months, showed signs of improvement with a testing positivity rate of 21.9% for the week ending Dec. 30 compared with 24.4% the previous week. The average daily

number of hospitalizations dipped slightly during the week, to 65.3 from 65.9.

The World Health Organization and other agencies consider testing positivity rates over 10% to be excessive.

Data from Armstrong and Butler counties offered a less rosy picture, with spikes in the testing positivity rates instead of the declines elsewhere in the metro area.

Armstrong reported a 24.4% positivity rate, up from 21.8% the previous week. Average daily hospitalizations were also up slightly while the seven-day case count fell to 236 for the week ending Dec. 30 compared with 309 cases the week before.

The testing positivity rate rose to 16.5% in Butler County from 14.9% for the week ending Dec. 30 compared with the previous seven days, while the average daily hospitalization rate ticked upward to 61.1 from 52.6.
