As warmer weather approaches, low-cost Spirit Airlines is reintroducing flights from Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Latrobe to Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Flights to Fort Lauderdale will resume May 8 and will be available two days per week — Thursdays and Sundays — through the summer, according to Westmoreland County Airport Authority Executive Director Gabe Monzo.
Spirit, which is Arnold Palmer Regional Airport’s only commercial airline, is gradually restoring its service after filing for bankruptcy last year. The airline had offered daily, year-round service from Latrobe until December of 2022.
In January, Spirit announced that its seasonal daily flights to Myrtle Beach would resume May 7. The airline’s seasonal daily flights from Latrobe to Orlando were not disrupted.
Each of Spirit’s flights from Latrobe are on 180-seat Airbus 320 aircraft.
Mr. Monzo said it was “wonderful news” that Spirit was restoring its service to Fort Lauderdale and was optimistic that the airline would eventually expand its service from two days per week.
“We’re extremely happy that things have gotten to the point where they’re increasing the flights out of Latrobe, and we’re hoping for bigger and better things to come,” he said.
